The People

The only thing more wonderful than the beach at Cape Santa Maria is the friendly local people. Unlike the large and over-developed tourist destinations throughout the Caribbean islands, the atmosphere on Long Island is still friendly and relaxed.

Until fairly recently, the only outside contact with the island was by mail boat and private charter. As a result, the people and lifestyle at Cape Santa Maria still have that old-fashioned, Caribbean charm. The islanders are friendly and helpful, making Long Island among the safest and most enjoyable of all the Caribbean islands.

Many of the resort staff are long time employees, and are truly the life of the resort. The boutique resort atmosphere means that the staff gets to know you by name, not just room number. Long Island hospitality is second-to-none, and resort guests consistently rave about the staff and service.

To see the vibrant and exciting side of Bahamian culture, plan to visit during Junkanoo, an annual celebration featuring brilliant costumes, music, dancing and arts.
